Death of Frederick S. Osborne Announced, Former President of Lyme Academy

The death of Lyme Academy President Emeritus Frederick S. Osborne, who served as the Academy’s second president  from 2002 through 2007, has been announced.

Mr. Osborne was responsible for ushering the Academy through to a fully accredited, independent fine arts college. He was devoted to the mission of the Academy and understood the contribution of illustration carrying the torch of realism at a time when arts institutions were dismissing observational skills in drawing, painting and sculpture. Mr. Osborne added the Illustration major to the degree-granting Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts.

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Guy Wiggins, a third-generation painter, scholar and diplomat has died Oct. 28, 2020, at age 100.

Guy Wiggins, a third-generation painter who traveled the world as a soldier, scholar and diplomat before devoting himself to an art career that lasted nearly half a century, has died at 100. The cause was cancer.

Death of Bruce Chandler Announced, Guidance Counselor/Director for Over 37 Years at Lyme-Old Lyme HS

EAST LYME – Bruce Ian Chandler, 77, of East Lyme passed away Oct. 26, 2020, after a long battle with cancer and strokes. He was the beloved husband of Ellen (Zrenda) Chandler. He was born Dec. 28, 1942, to Henry Chandler Jr. and Elizabeth Chandler. He grew up and attended East Lyme schools, and graduated from New London High School, class of 1961 …

Bruce began his career in education in the Lyme-Old Lyme system, teaching history and English and coaching baseball. He was a guidance counselor for 37 years, retiring as the Director of Guidance. He found great joy working with his students and colleagues in Lyme-Old Lyme over the years …
