Sept. 29 COVID-19 Update: No New Cases in Lyme or Old Lyme, Cumulative Totals Hold Respectively at 129 and 426

LYME/OLD LYME — The Daily Data Report issued Wednesday, Sept. 29, at 4 p.m. by the Connecticut Department of Health shows no new confirmed COVID-19 cases in either Lyme or Old Lyme for the third day in a row.

Old Lyme’s cumulative total has stood at 426 since Monday, while Lyme’s remains at 129.  In this latter case, however, the cumulative total has been unchanged since Sept. 13.

The state does not issue reports over the weekend. Their next report will be Thursday, Sept. 30, at around 4 p.m..

Old Lyme’s cumulative case total stood at 372 on Aug. 26, meaning there have been 54 new cases since that date when Lyme-Old Lyme Schools started the new academic year.

COVID-19 Cases in Lyme-Old Lyme Schools

This is the latest information that we have with the most recent cases first — we believe there have been further updates, however, which we have not yet received.

On Thursday, Sept. 16, Lyme-Old Lyme Schools Superintendent Ian Neviaser informed the school community that a previously reported positive case of COVID-19 is now impacting Mile Creek School and Center School.

On Monday, Sept. 13, a positive case of COVID-19 impacting Lyme-Old Lyme Middle School, which had been reported the previous day, was announced.

On Wednesday, Sept. 1,  a positive case of COVID-19 impacting Mile Creek School was announced.

On Tuesday, Aug. 31, Neviaser informed the school community that late on Monday, Aug. 30, a positive case of COVID-19 impacting Lyme-Old Lyme High School had been reported.

On Saturday, Aug. 28, Neviaser informed the school community that late on Friday, Aug. 27, a positive case of COVID-19 impacting Lyme School had been reported.

In all cases, contact tracing was completed and those individuals who needed to quarantine were notified. They will be able to return to school following their quarantine period. All other students and staff will continue to attend school as scheduled.

Fatalities Due to COVID-19 in Lyme, Old Lyme

There is no change in the number of fatalities reported in either Lyme (0) or Old Lyme (3).

The first two fatalities from Old Lyme, which were reported in 2020, were a 61-year-old female and an 82-year-old male. Details of the third, which was reported in 2021, have not been made available.

Take a Griswold Preserve Hike and/or Join ‘Hiker’s Happy Hour’ at Old Lyme Inn, Today

OLD LYME — The Old Lyme Land Trust (OLLT), the Old Lyme Open Space Commission and the Old Lyme Inn are sponsoring a “Hiker’s Happy Hour” on Wednesday, Sept. 29.

A guided walk will leave at 4:15 p.m. from the Griswold Preserve trailhead in Old Lyme.

All are welcome.

After the hike, people will re-group at the nearby Old Lyme Inn for a 5 to 7 p.m. friendly happy hour, with half-price drinks the first hour. You need not hike to enjoy the event; the happy hour at the Inn will begin at 5 p.m. for hikers and others alike.

Hikers should wear comfortable walking shoes and bring insect repellent.

Lyme-Old Lyme Lions Club Holds Prospective Member Social at OL Inn Tonight

OLD LYME — The Lyme-Old Lyme (LOL) Lions Club, which has been in existence for more than 40 years, serves the Lyme-Old Lyme community, the state, the nation and the world through its efforts to help those with challenges to their eyesight.

Learn about Lions Club activities and membership in the organization at their kick-off event at the Old Lyme Inn on Wednesday, Sept. 29, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. outside on the patio. There will be a short presentation by Lion Keith LeMire.

Hearty appetizers will be served, and as a guest of the Lions, you will receive a complimentary beverage.

The LOL Lions are a 30-member group of men and women full of energy and imagination. They wish to increase their numbers and would welcome friends and neighbors who wish to join them and follow the Lions motto of, ‘We serve.’ Becoming a local Lion is a way to give back to your community, build friendships, and work for the common good both here and in the world.

The Lions offer monthly programs of high interest for members and visitors. Their biggest event is the Annual Car Show. They also hold a yearly Pancake Breakfast on Superbowl Sunday at Lyme-Old Lyme High School. Proceeds from the events are used to fund scholarships and charities supported by the Lions Club.

Some of the ways “We Serve” are to:

  • screen preschoolers for eye diseases
  • raise funds for eye research and local low vision centers
  • award scholarships to local students
  • work in our local soup kitchen
  • help those in need to get eye glasses and eye exams
  • donate to worthy local charities.

Old Lyme Boy’s Soccer Team Continues to Bounce Back with Win over Coginchaug

OLD LYME — On Monday, Old Lyme continued their recovery from a slow start to the season with a 2-1 win over Coginchaug.

Old Lyme’s goals were scored by Liam Celic and Anders Silberberg, who also assisted Celic’s goal.

Sam Whittle scored Coginchaug’s lone goal.

Jonah Lathrop  was in goal for the Wildcats and made four saves. Coginchaug’s goalie Logan Bender notched seven saves

Old Lyme is now 2-4-0 overall and 2-3-0 in the Shoreline Conference.

Sept. 27 COVID-19 Update: Three New Cases in Old Lyme Take Cumulative Total to 426, Lyme Steady at 129

No new cases were reported in Lyme over the same period, meaning that town’s cumulative case total remains at 129.

The state does not issue reports over the weekend. Their next report will be Tuesday, Sept. 28, at around 4 p.m..
