Letter to the Editor: Mesham Has Skills, Knowledge, Experience to Lead Old Lyme in All Areas of Safety, Security

To the Editor:

Unfortunately, crime is increasing in the United States from large cities to small villages. With an interstate highway through the center of town, four schools, and a summer crowd that doubles our population, Old Lyme is faced with safety and security challenges.

The role of first selectmen in our town includes Chief of Police. The first selectmen must coordinate and oversee all local police training and activities as well as partnering with the resident Connecticut State trooper and coordinating with Westbrook barracks to ensure and enforce all laws and safety precautions.

With 29 years as a State Trooper and 4 years as a Marine, John Mesham has the skills, knowledge, and experience to lead our town in all areas of safety and security. Our citizens, businesses, and children need the best protection possible in this dangerous time.

Vote John Mesham for First Selectman in November.

Sincerely,

David H.W. Griswold,
Old Lyme.

Letter to the Editor: Unaffiliated Matt Ward Endorsed for Selectman by Old Lyme Republicans Due to His Integrity, Community Involvement

To the Editor:

The members of the RTC of Old Lyme have enthusiastically endorsed Matt Ward, an unaffiliated voter, as our candidate for Second Selectman in November’s municipal election. This choice was made because we felt Matt’s values of integrity and community involvement closely matched the needs of the town. Matt’s history as a resident of Old Lyme is replete with examples of his commitment to the town. He served 3 years on the Board of Directors of the LYSB, 10 years on the LOL Little League, and many other town activities. In addition, Matt is a Planning Commission Alternate.

Matt has recently retired after 20 years as a State Police Officer. Matt and his wife Tara, well known in the community, have five children in the school system. He is a man of great energy, integrity, and commitment to our town. I ask you to elect Matt Ward as our Second Selectman on November 2nd.

Sincerely,

David Griswold,
Old Lyme.

Letter to the Editor: Local VFW Thanks Graybills, All-Pro for Helping Veteran in Need

To the Editor:

Recently we had a local veteran that was in a serious financial situation when his car was damaged beyond repair. Our Veteran’s Post contacted All Pro and the Graybill’s stepped up. They put this veteran in a car at less than full book value; allowing us to pay the remainder of the price. Not many dealers would take a loss, but the Graybill’s at All Pro are always willing to help the community and in this case, a combat veteran.

As we remember Veterans Day, it is nice to have such friends in our town.

Sincerely,

David Griswold,
Old Lyme.

Letter to the Editor: Carter Will Find Local Solutions

To the Editor:

In the many years I have lived, worked, and served on a number of boards and
committees in Old Lyme, I am aware of one fact; there are many very smart people living in our town. That would include our friends at the beaches. Together, we can solve our problems and address our challenges without turning to the State and other municipalities; such as New London.

Outside government bureaucracies do not offer the best solutions for us and worse they view us as the “rich town” that can well afford to pay more for their imposed solutions.

Our current First Selectwomen is too quick to turn to leaders in other towns and State government in Hartford without first seeking advice from local residents to address town projects.

I believe Cathy Carter will better serve our town as we can solve our own problems and control our own future.

Sincerely,

David Griswold,
Old Lyme.
