Artisan Fair at Sound View Today

necklaceThe Sound View Beach Association is hosting an Artisan Fair and Wine Tasting at the Shoreline Community Center, 39 Hartford Avenue, Old Lyme, next Saturday, July 20, from 4 to 9 p.m.

The Artisan Fair features a selection of local artisans and crafters working in Sterling Silver, Fabric Arts, Natural Bath & Body Products, Swarovski, Children’s Items, Copper, Sea Glass, Gemstones, Beadwork, Knit and Crochet.

Seaside Wines of Old Saybrook will conduct a wine tasting from 6 to 8 p.m.

Parking is free on Hartford Avenue and in the Town Lot for Old Lyme residents with Beach Stickers. Paid parking is available on-street in 2-hour increments until 6 p.m.  After 6 p.m., all street parking is free.

“Hall Crawl” Tag Sales in Lyme: Two for One on Aug. 3

The Lyme Public Hall Association and the Hadlyme Public Hall Association will be holding Tag Sales on Saturday, Aug, 3, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. 

The Lyme Public Hall sale will feature housewares, furniture, jewelry and unexpected treasures, as well as a bake sale with home-made pies and other tasty treats.  The Hadlyme Hall will have a wide selection of interesting items for home, garden, and garage.

Intake for the Lyme Public Hall sale will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, July 29 through Thursday Aug. 1.  There will also be evening drop-off on Thursday, Aug. 1 from 6 to 8 pm.

The Hadlyme Public Hall will take items on Friday, Aug. 2 after 4 pm.

Neither sale will accept large appliances, upholstered furniture, consumer electronics or large exercise equipment.  No records, or books at the Lyme Hall as well.

Proceeds from the sales will go toward the maintenance of these local historic buildings and their programs for the public

I-95 Southbound Closed in Old Lyme After Tractor-Trailer Fire

At 11 a.m. Friday, I-95 remained closed southbound between exits 70 and 71 after a tractor-trailer fire at around 4.20 a.m.   Southbound traffic was diverted off the highway at exit 71, causing significant traffic back-up.

The tractor-trailer, which was carrying frozen crab legs, became fully engulfed in flames.  No injuries were reported, but an amount of fuel was spilled on the highway, requiring DEEP staff to conduct a clean-up operation.

Rte. 156 and Boston Post Rd. were heavily congested throughout the morning as southbound traffic was diverted off I-95 at exit 71 and directed either south on Four Mile River Rd. to Rte. 156 or north on Four Mile River Rd. to Boston Post Rd.
