Death of Jerome R. “Jerry” Srogi, Jr. of Old Lyme Announced, Father of LOL Schools’ Teacher Nancy Sparaco

Jerome ‘Jerry’ R. Srogi

OLD LYME — Jerome R. Srogi, Jr., 86, of Old Lyme passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2020. He was the beloved husband of Judith (Dolan) Srogi for fifty eight years. Jerry was born in New Britain on December 16, 1933. He was the son of Jerome Sr. and Mary (Zembko) Srogi.

Jerry was self-employed as a Home Remodeling Contractor. He resided in Berlin before retiring in Old Lyme at his home on Roger’s Lake where he enjoyed many family gatherings, boating, and the beauty of nature.

Jerry had a deep passion for music. It sustained him throughout his lifetime. A talented, self-taught musician, he played several instruments. A day never went by without our music man, Jerry, listening to a beloved jazz tune or playing his keyboard. In his younger days, he played the drums in local bands. Jerry and his late brother Richard, a saxophone player, loved jamming together for all of their lives. Jerry had music in his heart and soul.

Jerry was a kind, gentle, and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. “Pop” was incredibly proud of his children and grandchildren, attending numerous band concerts, dance recitals, and sporting events. He was a loyal and dependable husband and family-man, taking care of his mother, in-laws, aunts, and uncles in their elderly years. Family and friends could always count on Jerry for support.

He enjoyed tinkering with projects, refurbishing antiques, and restoring his vintage 1957 Dodge pick-up truck with his son Jerry. On many occasions, he was treated to his favorite meals prepared by his daughter Nancy. His love of family and music were his greatest gifts.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife Judy, his daughter Nancy and son-in-law Steven Sparaco, and his son Jerry Srogi III. He was a loving “Pop” to his four grandchildren, Sean, Brett, and Amy Sparaco as well as Jay Srogi IV. Jerry is also survived by his god daughter, Cindi Ciarcia and niece Colleen Courtis.

Memorial contributions may be made in honor of Jerry’s dog Cara, to Poodle Rescue Connecticut Inc. , P.O. Box 188, Naugatuck, CT 06770.

VERO BEACH, FLA. – Jonathan Jewett of Vero Beach, Fla., beloved husband of Susan Cooney Jewett, father of Brooke Jewett Nadell, Lindsay Jewett Sturman, and Ian Sheafe Jewett, died in Vero Beach Thursday, July 9, after a long battle with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.

Death of Rose Mary (Paier) Carlo of Rocky Hill, Old Lyme Announced

Rose Mary (Paier) Carlo, 90, of Rocky Hill and Old Lyme, formerly of Wethersfield and Deerfield Beach, FL, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2020. She spent her final days in the comfort of her home in Rocky Hill, surrounded by her loving family. Rose Mary was born December 24, 1929 in Springfield, MA, daughter of the late Angelo and Philomena (Ferrera) Paier. She was married to the late Russell Carlo whom she shared her life with for 62 cherished years until he passed in 2015.

Death of Barbara Doyle McMahon Announced; Formerly of Old Lyme, Committed Volunteer at OL Women’s Exchange

OLD LYME — Barbara Virginia Doyle McMahon, 91, of Essex, died July 15, 2020. She was a former resident of Old Lyme and Darien. Barbara was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., the daughter of Frank and Virginia Doyle. She was a graduate of the Packer Collegiate Institute in Brooklyn Heights and Smith College. Immediately after graduating from Smith, she married James McMahon of Brooklyn, whom she had met at dancing school. They eventually moved to Darien, where they raised their two children. Barbara was a committed volunteer at the Old Lyme Women’s Exchange …

James Norman Dean Passed Away in April, Lived All His 88 Years in Old Lyme

James Norman Dean. who passed away April 20, 2020 after spending all his 88 years as a resident of Old Lyme.

James was born on March 4, 1932, in Old Lyme, the son of Roy Dean and Doris Babcock Dean.

James was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the Air Force. He was a manager at A & P Tea Company for over 40 years and he loves all sports, baseball and UConn women, NASCAR racing. He also loved hiking the nature trails and all his friends at the DEEP. He especially loved being a jokester, like the empty box and the under the buck gift. He loved playing setback, crossword puzzles. He loved his beer and occasionally a glass of wine. He also enjoys listening to WFAN and reading “The Day” paper and mowing his lawn. He loved dressing up with funny hats and glasses at Christmas. He loved the New York Yankees, the NY Giants and Green Bay Packers. He was also a member of the Piss and Moan and Groan club. He loved hotdogs at Cumby’s and Johnny Ads. He always had a joke and a smile on his face, loved Joes Poolroom especially when 8 ball answered. Dad your favorite word was lousy and it sure is lousy that your gone, we love you and miss you.

He is survived by his daughters Vicki and (Paul) Dorothy of Old Lyme and Lori and (Chris) Hebert of Deep River; grandchildren Kevin Dorothy (Carmen), Manchester Ct and Paul Dorothy III (Lyndsay) of Westbrook Ct, and Jason Schaefer of Longmont Colorado; Greatgrandchildren, Kodi of Manchester Ct and Chase of Longmont Colorado.

The family would like to thank Rebecca and the team at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital, also they would like to thank the team at Smilow Cancer Center in Waterford.

Private burial with military honors will be held at Laysville Cemetery, Old Lyme. Donations may be made to Smilow Cancer Center in Waterford.
