On Sept. 4, 1971, he married the love of his life, Mary, and they lived in Old Lyme, with their two children, Margaret “Muffy” Hunter-Smith of Clarksburg, Md. and Scott Hunter of Old Lyme.

While in Old Lyme, he worked for Millstone Nuclear Powerplant for more than three decades and helped Mary run the Rogers Lake Liquor Store for over 20 years. In 2005, Hal and Mary retired to The Villages, Fla. …
