Christopher Anthony Romeo, 60, of Old Lyme, passed away March 8, 2023. Chris was born June 21, 1962, in Old Lyme, to Armand and Barbara Romeo.

He graduated from Lyme-Old Lyme High School in 1980, where he was President of his high school class. Chris was a part of his high school’s golf, basketball, and cross-country teams. Chris was a member of the golf team when they won the State Championship in 1979 …

Chris is now with his mother, Barbara Romeo, who predeceased him. Chris leaves behind his father, Armand Romeo, with whom he loved sparring about the Red Sox vs Yankees, as well as politics. He will also be missed by his siblings, Alex (Patrice) Romeo, Susan (Robert) Malestein, and Leslie (Jeff) Edmonds …

Chris had a love of language and the history of words and would’ve enjoyed red-lining this description of his life. “The Defense finally rests…”

We would like to thank the following people for their help over the past two years as Donalds health declined. We owe Lynn Farrell (Help with A Heart) [of Old Lyme] a debt of gratitude for her time and energy in providing daily care for Donald. She worked very hard to provide a positive and creative home during these difficult times. Her friend and associate Carol would stand in as needed to help Lynn and give her some relief. Lynn was instrumental in keeping him safe, fed and cared for over the past two years. Her compassion and care were unbelievable taking the time to celebrate birthdays, holidays and create a lively atmosphere. She became a member of the family.

There were many others who helped Donald over the years. Juan Baez Torres, his Sancho Panza, who helped maintain “Woods Haven” and was his right hand man for over 30 years. He not only maintained the property but was there for many adventures and misadventures with Donald. Dorothy Dabbs, who over the past year took time to visit and help celebrate birthdays and events. Norm Bersing who by living close by became chief equipment repair person …

Donald spent his winters in Florida in his adopted hometown of Venice, Florida … He would spend the rest of the year in the warmer months at his pride and joy “Woods Haven” in Old Lyme Ct. He raised all types of farm animals and gardens and threw some amazing parties and clam bakes …

He cherished the relationship he had with his granddaughter Sonja. She shared many adventures with him …

Services will be private for family and close friends and at a date to be determined …

She remained in Newington until she retired. Barbara then moved permanently to her summer home on Roger’s Lake in Old Lyme where she filled her time entertaining, teaching mahjong and volunteering at the Old Saybrook Senior Center …
