LYME, CT—The Hamburg Fair celebrated its 121st anniversary this year and visitors enjoyed music, fun-filled rides galore, great food and drink options, and no end of family-oriented activities and contests for crafts, flowers, children’s art, handcrafts, home goods, fruits and vegetables.

LYME, CT—Around 70 Democrats from Lyme and Old Lyme attended an event at the Lyme Public Hall on Saturday Afternoon. U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal, Connecticut Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz, Connecticut Attorney General William Tong, State Senator Norm Needleman, and District 23 State Representative Candidate Jane Wisialowski all spoke about the upcoming election.
OLD LYME—There is a treat in store for art lovers this summer as the Lyme Art Association (LAA) in Old Lyme, Conn., showcases three new exhibitions.
The 103rd Elected Artists Exhibition features the work of LAA’s Elected Artists—their most accomplished artists, who serve as torchbearers of the American representational tradition. This annual exhibition highlights a wide range of artwork, continuing the annual tradition of celebrating the best work of these artists.
Running alongside is Taking Flight, a show that considers the beauty of avian life and the exhilaration of flight. Through various mediums and artistic styles, LAA member artists capture the essence of avian ecology and the human fascination with flight, while inspiring a deeper connection with conservation.
In addition, LAA has welcomed the New Haven Paint & Clay Club back to its galleries for their 2024 Selected Members Exhibition, a juried show that features the work of five notable artists: Diane Chandler, Robert Jacoby, Anne Johann, Gus Moran, and Greg Shea.
All three exhibitions are on view through Sept. 5. Gallery hours are Wednesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free, with donations appreciated.

Founded in 1914 by the American Impressionists, the LAA continues the tradition of exhibiting and selling representational artwork, while also offering art instruction and lectures to the community. LYME/OLD LYME— Two towns, two different results.
Tuesday’s US Senate Republican Primary in Old Lyme ended with 78 votes for Gerry Smith and 43 for Matthew Corey, while in contrast in Lyme, Corey polled 32 votes to Smith’s 14.
In Old Lyme, there were 26 Early Votes and three Absentee Ballots—Lyme recorded 14 Early Votes.
Turnout was remarkably low in both towns. Old Lyme has 1601 registered Republicans so the 121 total number of voters represented just 7.6 percent of those who were eligible to vote.
The Associated Press (AP) called the race for Corey with 96 percent of votes counted at 9:46 p.m. At that time according to the AP, Corey had secured 19,008 votes to Smith’s 15,931.
Corey will face incumbent Senator Chris Murphy (D) in November. Sen. Murphy is seeking his third term in the US Senate.
OLD LYME—Rogers Lake (Hains Park) in Old Lyme was posted with a swimming advisory on Tuesday, Aug. 6, and re-sampled on Wednesday, Aug. 7.
Results showed that elevated bacteria levels persisted, and the beach was resampled again on Friday, Aug. 9.
Results were within acceptable limits, and the advisory was lifted on on Saturday, Aug. 10.
