Suisman Shapiro Atty. Zrenda of Old Lyme Secures $1.5 Million Settlement for Injured Motorcyclist

Atty. Kyle Zrenda of Suisman Shapiro Attorneys at Law.

NEW LONDON/OLD LYME—Atty. Kyle Zrenda, who is an Old Lyme resident, recently attained a $1,500,000 settlement for a motorcyclist injured in a collision with an SUV in Stonington.

Atty. Zrenda is a director on the civil litigation team of Suisman Shapiro Attorneys at Law of New London. He practices in the areas of personal injury, medical malpractice, tribal law, and insurance law.

Atty. Zrenda’s client was coming home from a Fourth of July barbeque when the driver of an SUV failed to yield the right of way at a stop sign, colliding with the motorcycle. The motorcyclist had 10 surgeries under general anesthesia.

The other driver’s insurance carrier attempted to blame the motorcyclist for the collision, claiming that he had been speeding and was not wearing appropriate reflective clothing.

Atty. Zrenda put forward evidence from an expert in accident reconstruction to counter these arguments, convincing the insurance company that it should not risk a trial, avoiding months, if not years, of litigation, while still securing the compensation to which his client was entitled under the law.

Atty. Zrenda was admitted to the New York Bar in 2013, and the Connecticut Bar in 2014. He is also admitted to practice in Federal District Courts for the District of Connecticut, as well as those for the Southern, Eastern, and Northern Districts  of New York.

In 2021, Atty. Zrenda was admitted to practice before the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Court and the Mohegan Gaming Disputes Court. Since 2017, Atty. Zrenda has been recognized by Super Lawyers ® as a “Rising Star” in the area of personal injury law—no more than 2.5 percent of attorneys in each state are chosen for this honor.

He has also been recognized by U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Lawyers in America—“Ones to Watch” since 2021.

The award-winning Old Lyme Inn is located at the junction of Halls Rd. and Lyme St.

OLD LYME — In its 2024 Connecticut Travel Guide to Best Restaurants, Hotels & Things to Do, Yankee Magazine has given top honors to the Old Lyme Inn in its Connecticut Classic Lodging section for Affordable Elegance.

The magazine notes, “You’ll have the Florence Griswold Museum, Lyme Art Association, and Roger Tory Peterson Estuary Center for neighbors when you check into this 1865 farmhouse turned inn,” adding, “You’ll also have some extra money in your pocket, because it’s possible to score a $200 room here even at the height of summer.”

The award announcement continues, “Good thing, since you’ll want to splurge on splendid offerings like Saturday afternoon tea, bubbly in the art-graced bar, a prix fixe dinner on the tree-shaded patio, and groovy, big city–caliber performances at the Side Door Jazz Club.”

Congratulations to owners Ken and Chris Kitchings on this terrific achievement … though we’re slightly sad that this favorite spot for not only the LymeLine publisher but also many of our readers is now shared with the world!

Letter to the Editor: Gravel Pit Concerns ‘Very Real’, Perhaps ‘Emblematic of Culture of Old Lyme?

To the Editor:

Thank you, Mr Caron [regarding you letter dated May 22, published on LymeLine.com.] These concerns [re the gravel pit along the Three-Mile River located at 308-1 Mile Creek Rd. in Old Lyme] are very real, and the neighbors of this property are suffering economic, environmental and disturbances to the peace on our properties.

The 1984 (!) noise ordinance in Old Lyme is virtually useless and toothless.

The owner of the property has demonstrated disrespect and lack of civility toward their neighbors.

Is this emblematic of the culture of Old Lyme?

Sincerely,

Betsy Groth,
Old Lyme.

The Connecticut River-front estate located at 5-1 Pilgrim Landing Rd, listed with Colette Harron and Beth Cote, sold for $4,019,500.

“We are honored to have the highest sale in Old Lyme with this beautiful property, and so pleased that the sale makes such a significant statement about the desirability of this area,” said Harron. “Exuding classic Americana charm, this estate is one of the most remarkable homes on the Connecticut Shoreline. It sits on 48 private acres at the edge of the Connecticut River, offering incredible views and rich architectural heritage.”

The 5,158 sq. ft. Colonial main home offers a spacious and open floor plan with elegant dental moldings and built-ins, custom millwork, arched top doors and hardwood floors throughout the living spaces. Adjacent to the main home, the guest house features a kitchenette, bedroom, full bath and water views from every room. The expansive property includes a fishing pond, granite ledges, hiking trails, a private beach and a gunite swimming pool with a bluestone patio and elevated spa.

“This is a classic and elegant home that brings together the best of past and present,” Cote said. “We are thrilled to complete this sale and find new owners who will have a chance to preserve its legacy.”
