Old Lyme Soccer Boys March Boldly Into State Quarterfinals

MONTVILLE — Playing away, Old Lyme soundly defeated Saint Bernard High School 3-0 Wednesday in the second round of the CIAC Class S State Tournament. 

Anders Silberberg, pictured left, scored twice for the Wildcats and Luke Celic added a third goal. Lucas Dasilva contributed an assist. 

Jonah Lathrop made three saves for Old Lyme while Dan O’Brien had eight saves for St. Bernard 

Old Lyme now advances to the quarterfinals Friday with a home game against Notre Dame-Fairfield. Kick-off is 2 p.m.

Lyme-OL School Referendum Passes by Over 800 Votes

LYME/OLD LYME — UPDATED Nov. 9 at 11am with Superintendent’s comments: In yesterday’s referendum, voters in Lyme and Old Lyme approved the $57.6 million bond proposed by the Region 18 Board of Education for renovating and expanding four schools in the District by a substantial majority.

Provisional results showed 57.7 percent of voters in the two towns voted for the resolution and 42.3 percent voted against, with a total of 3,001 Yes votes cast in the two towns combined and a total of 2,200 No votes.

Asked his reaction the result, Lyme-Old Lyme Schools Superintendent Ian Neviaser responded by email, “We greatly appreciate the ongoing support of our schools from our communities.”

He continued, “With the approval of this project, we will be able to modernize our elementary and middle school building systems which will provide a safe and healthy learning and working environment for our students and staff.”

Neviaser concluded, “We will continue to keep the community updated on our progress and look forward to a smooth and efficient project over the next few years.”

The breakdown of the results by town was as follows:

Republican Carney, Democrat Marx Win In Old Lyme Unofficial Tallies Reflecting Likely Final Results, Democrats Are Top Vote-Getters in Other Key Races

OLD LYME — Unofficial results from Old Lyme show incumbent Governor Ned Lamont (D) polling 2,583 votes compared to Republican Bob Stefanowski’s number of 1,822. Lamont has claimed victory but Stefanowski has yet to concede.

Other results from Old Lyme show incumbent Senator Richard Blumenthal (D) with 2,583 votes in contrast to Trump-backed Leora Levy (R) with 1,734 votes. The Associated Press has called the race for Blumenthal.

Incumbent Representative in Congress Joe Courtney (D) polled 2,747 votes while challenger Mike France (R) gained 1,537 votes. Courtney is currently leading statewide.

The open race for the 20th District State Senator, created by Paul Formica’s retirement, pitched Republican Jerry Labriola,Jr. against three-time candidate Martha Marx (D). In Old Lyme, Marx gained 2,258 votes to Labriola’s 2,054.The Day reports Marx’s campaign has made the call that Marx has won the contest.

Incumbent State Representative Devin Carney (R-23rd) polled 2,321 votes while challenger Colin Heffernan garnered 2,000 votes. The Day reports that Heffernan has conceded the race to Carney.

LYME — Unofficial results from Lyme show incumbent Governor Ned Lamont (D) polling 895 votes compared to Republican Bob Stefanowski’s number of 517. Independent Robert Hotaling drew 16 votes. Lamont has claimed victory but Stefanowski has yet to concede.

Other results from Lyme show incumbent Senator Richard Blumenthal (D) with 939 votes in contrast to Trump-backed Leora Levy (R) with 475 votes. The Associated Press has called the race for Blumenthal. Similarly, incumbent Representative in Congress Joe Courtney (D) polled 950 votes while challenger Mike France (R) gained 444 votes. Courtney’s re-election is currently leading statewide.

Incumbent State Senator Norm Needleman (D) drew 925 votes while challenger Brandon Goff (R) took 491.

Incumbent State Representative Devin Carney (R) polled 633 votes but challenger Colin Heffernan surpassed that number with 783 votes. The Day reports, however, that Heffernan has conceded the race to Carney.

A Letter From The Editor: An Important Update

To Our Readers:

I wanted to update you on what has been happening to LymeLine for the past few days. 

The site experienced a major catastrophe earlier this week and ultimately, it turned out the only way to recover was to build a new site. As many of you will know, this normally takes weeks and often months but my remarkable IT Director (aka my husband) has worked round the clock to create a functioning site. Huge thanks to him.

It is, however, still very much a work in progress but it is, at least, here and working. We will continue to improve its design and increase the content on a daily basis. I felt we could not wait until the site was perfect since the election and school building referendum are just around the corner.

We will add back all the categories in due course and also the Community Calendar. The site was thankfully backed-up effectively but we have lost a handful of the most recent articles, which included a Letter to the Editor about the School Building Referendum. I have re-created most of the articles already and re-published the letter. We will be contacting readers, who had previously commented on the letter, inviting them to resubmit their comments as we are unable to do that on their behalf.

Due to these unexpected issues, we are going to postpone publication of the election candidate bios and their responses to our questions until next Wednesday, Nov. 2.

Thank you to all the kind readers, who contacted us to see if things were OK. I appreciate all the messages, especially the one from someone, who hoped we had not ceased publication, and said simply, “I would really miss LymeLine.”
