OLD LYME—The Wildcats advanced to the CIAC Division V quarter-finals last night with a 53-44 win over the Grasso Tech Eagles—but it did not come easily.
To quote from rookie coach Dylan Sheffield’s words in his post-game interview, the team was “grinding” as it clawed out the unexpectedly tough victory..

The Eagles drew up to just one point away from Old Lyme in the fourth quarter while the ‘Cats missed shot after shot from both the court and foul line but finally, Old Lyme found its rhythm again and pulled away to clinch the win.
Freshman Eddie Fiske was a major contributor to the Wildcat’s score with a game-high 20 points. He was joined by senior Leland Hine:, who notched a solid 14 points.

Old Lyme will host the Somers Spartans in Monday’s quarterfinal to be played in the Lyme-Old Lyme High School gym.

OLD LYME—UPDATE 8:12pm: Old Lyme defeated Grasso Tech 53-44 in tonight’s game. Tonight, Thursday March 7, at 6:30 p.m., third-ranked Old Lyme will host #14 Grasso Tech in a second round match-up in the CIAC Division V tournament. The Wildcats secured a bye in the first round.
The game will be played in the Lyme-Old Lyme High School gym.

OLD LYME—Bruce David Baratz, of Old Lyme, passed away in Middletown Feb. 26, 2024. He was born in New London, Nov. 8, 1943, to the late Wilbur and Frances (Sears) Baratz.

OLD LYME—The Lyme Art Association invites you to its historic galleries for the return of An Exhibition in Four Acts, which showcases the assorted styles of its talented artists. Each juried show looks at the world through a different lens. Running concurrently a travel-themed show titled, All the World’s a Stage.
An Opening Reception for both shows will be held Sunday, March 3, from 2 to 4 p.m.
The first ‘Act’ is titled Phases of Light. Whether it is dawn’s gentle glow, midday’s intense brilliance, a sunset’s warm hues, or ethereal moonlight, Phases of Light celebrates the beauty of light. Member artists delve into the interplay between shadow and light to capture the essence of illumination.
The second ‘Act’ is Rock of Ages, which examines the geological beauty of the earth, focusing on the rocks and stones that define the foundation of a landscape.
“Pink Peonies in Silver” by Carol Frieswick in oil is a signature work in the ‘Stillness: A Still Life‘ section of ‘An Exhibition in Four Acts.’
The third ‘Act’, Stillness: A Still Life, is an introspection into the world of still life. The painter Giorgio Morandi states that, “[t]o achieve understanding it is necessary not to see many things, but to look hard at what you do see.” In moments of chaos, the quiet beauty of art can function as a temporary pause for both artists and viewers.
The fourth and final ‘Act’ is Strictly Abstract, which focuses on the abstractions of life and nonobjective art making.
All the World’s a Stage takes Shakespeare’s famous quote from As You Like It as its inspiration for this exhibition, which focuses on places outside New England. This allows LAA member artists to visually interpret their travels with landscape and still life artworks.
All the shows are on view through April 11. Editor’s Note: Founded in 1914 by the American Impressionists, the Lyme Art Association continues the tradition of exhibiting and selling representational artwork by its members and invited artists, as well as offering art instruction, lectures, and other public programs to the community. OLD LYME—UPDATED 03/01: This week the CIAC announced both the rankings and play-off schedule for qualifying teams in all divisions for the upcoming CIAC tournaments.
Old Lyme is ranked #3 and secured a 1st round bye. On Thursday March 7, at 6:30 p.m., the Wildcats will host the winner of #14 Grasso Tech vs #19 HMTCA (Hartford Magnet Trinity College Academy.)
CLINTON, CT—02/28:On Tuesday evening, in a tightly-contested Shoreline Tournament semifinal game right to the final buzzer, the third-seeded Lyme-Old Lyme Wildcats ultimately fell 49-56 to the #2 seeded Morgan Huskies.
