COVID-19 Update: 16 Confirmed Cases in Old Lyme in Past Week, Three in Lyme
Old Lyme’s Total Cumulative COVID-19 Cases Now 1,418, Lyme’s Equivalent Number is 342

LYME/OLD LYME — The latest COVID-19 case count reported by the Connecticut Department of Public Health (dated Saturday, Aug. 6) shows 1,418 cases for Old Lyme and 342 for Lyme. These numbers have increased from our last report on Friday, July 29, by 16 cases in Old Lyme and three cases in Lyme.
Connecticut’s Positivity Rate was 11.79% on July 29 but has now risen to 11.92% as the increased infection rates of Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 make their mark.
The cumulative total of COVID-19-related fatalities in Connecticut rose from 11,102 on July 29, to 11,139 on Aug. 6, meaning a further 37 residents had died during that period.

Lymes’ Senior Center Hosts ‘Take Two and Call Me in the Morning Band’ Tonight; LOL Lions Host Pre-concert Cook-Out

The ‘Take Two and Call Me in the Morning Band’ will present a free concert at Lymes’ Senior Center, Thursday evening. All ages are welcome.
OLD LYME — On Thursday, Aug. 4, at 7 p.m., the Take Two and Call Me in the Morning Band will perform outdoors in the Lymes’ Senior Center field as part of the Summer Sounds Outdoor Concert Series. The Senior Center is located at 26 Town Woods Rd. in Old Lyme, CT.
This local group is comprised of physicians and health care providers. The six-person band specializes in vocally-driven classic rock songs from the 60s to the 2000s
All are welcome to this free musical performance. The senior center suggests bringing your own lawn chair.
No time (or wish!) to cook before the concert?
The Lyme-Old Lyme (LOL) Lions Club can solve that problem for you. They will have a cookout at 6 p.m. ahead of the concert. Hot dogs, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, drinks, and chips will be available for purchase on the Lymes’ Senior Center grounds. Proceeds will benefit the LOL Lions Club Scholarship Fund.

Death Announced of Dr. Robert “Bob” James Staab of Old Lyme, Services Thursday in OL
OLD LYME — Dr. Robert James Staab, 71, of Old Lyme, passed away July 29, 2022, surrounded by family. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 4, at Christ the King Church in Old Lyme, followed by a reception.
Known affectionately as “Dr. Bob,” he was born in Roselle, N.J., Sept. 18, 1950. He married his high school sweetheart, Susan Hornyak July 29, 1972. They were married for exactly 50 years to the day and had four children together.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Robert (Kathleen), Katherine, Christopher (Erin), and Stephanie …
He earned graduate degrees from St. John University and Fairleigh Dickinson University, as well as a bachelor’s degree in biology from his beloved alma mater, Boston College. His profession was his true calling in life …
The other great passion of his life was his faith …
He could be found cruising the Connecticut River in his 1966 Bertram Moppie “Blue Chip” from April to November …
