Lyme-Old Lyme HS Presents ‘Midsummer/Jersey’ Comedy Tonight

Lyme-Old Lyme High School presents ‘Midsummer/Jersey’ tonight, (Nov. 10) in the high school auditorium. All are welcome. Tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for students and seniors.  Doors open at 7 p.m.

The play is the hilarious, high-octane re-telling of Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream set on the boardwalk of a seaside town in modern-day New Jersey.

The story revolves around the impending marriage of the Governor of New Jersey, the love affairs of four beach-bound high school crushes, a lively crew of fairies and the staff of the local beauty salon (run by Patti Quince and Stylist Nikki Bottom).

The night takes a magical turn when Oberon and the impish Puck arrive on the scene armed with a powerful love potion and a desire for mischief making.

With several weddings and the acting careers of six beauticians hanging in the balance, the lovers take to the boardwalk, backed by pop music and an iPhone-obsessed wood sprite.

Lyme, Old Lyme Town Halls Hosts Holiday Art Exhibit by Local Seniors

‘Dream Lilies’ by Jeri Baker is one of the featured works in the Lymes’ Senior Center Art Show at Old Lyme Town Hall.

Art groups from the Lymes’ Senior Center will hold their third annual exhibit of their work for sale in the Old Lyme Town Hall during
November and December. The participating artists have been taking art classes with Sharon Schmiedel. Paintings, drawings, and mixed media pieces will be on display.

Additionally, two members of the Center’s community, Janet Cody and Peg Sheehan, will add a “Touch of Craft” with their work in traditional punch needle pieces and handmade jewelry of silver, gold and semi-precious and precious stones respectively.

Another member, Norma DeGrafft, will also display her scenic watercolors in the Lyme Town Hall.

A portion of any sale will be donated to the Lymes’ Senior Center. An opening reception for this show will be held on Friday, Nov. 9, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Old Lyme Town Hall. Light refreshments will be served.

Wildcats Advance to State Quarterfinals; Play Portland This Afternoon After Defeating Cromwell Yesterday

Old Lyme won 2-1 yesterday in the second round of CIAC State Tournament defeating Cromwell, to whom they had previously lost in both the regular season and conference playoffs.

Mya Johnson was the first to score for the Wildcats off an assist from Kaylee Armenia.

Old Lyme led 1-0 at halftime but Cromwell tied the game up at 1-1 at the 28 minute mark after a goal mouth scramble.

Britney DeRoehn scored the game-winning goal unassisted with 6:20 minutes left on the clock.

Sam Gray was in goal for Old Lyme and had seven saves.

Jessica DellaRatta was in goal for Cromwell and notched 16 saves.

Old Lyme now faces Portland in the quarter finals at the of neutral site Old Saybrook High School this afternoon at 2 p.m.

Free Fundraiser in Old Lyme This Evening for Cheetah Conservation

Join Brian Badger, the Cheetah Conservation Fund’s (CCF) Director of Conservation & Outreach, for a talk Nov. 9 from 6 to 8 p.m.  Titled, ‘Cheetah in the Spotlight: Toast to Conservation,’ the talk will take you into the wilds of Africa as Badger discusses key conservation strategies for the endangered cheetah. Badger will speak about the current status of wild cheetah populations and what’s being done to protect Africa’s most endangered big cat.

Badger’s talk will focus on CCF’s innovative conservation methods that address the welfare of both cheetah and human populations over large landscapes. Learn about the highly effective set of integrated programs that work together to achieve CCF’s objective to save the cheetah in the wild.

This is a free event at a private residence. Space is limited so an RSVP required. Hors d’oeuvres will be provided.

Musical Masterworks’ MMModern Presents ‘Quinteto Latino’ Tonight at Centerbrook

‘Quinteto Latino’ will perform Friday, Nov. 9, in the Centerbrook Meeting House.

Experience contemporary chamber music featuring Quinteto Latino tomorrow evening (Friday, Nov. 9) in a Musical Masterworks’ Modern concert starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Centerbrook Meetinghouse. Whether exploring new twists on traditional folk songs or premiering works by living composers, these five musicians blend both the vibrant colors and vigorous rhythms of Latin American music through the tones of the flute, oboe, clarinet, French horn, and bassoon.

Admission is $35 and student admission is $10. Admission includes a reception prior to the concert at 5:30 p.m.; the concert begins at 6:30 p.m.
