OLD LYME — The Town of Old Lyme Kindness Committee has selected Stephanie Gould, Director of the Lymes’ Senior Center, as their September Kindness Award recipient.
Gould was chosen for her leadership of the senior community during the COVID-19 pandemic. She developed creative and innovative ways to continue programs and events, including holding a drive-through parade so that seniors could safely come out and say Hello.
Gould also manages all virtual exercise classes, maintains a table outside the center with books and activities to help seniors stay active, and routinely makes personal phone calls to members to check in and see if they need anything.
“This pandemic has saddened me because all of our wonderful seniors, who are active and vibrant, are having to stay home and stay safe, often isolated from their friends and family,” said Gould.
She continued, “I feel that during this time especially, we need to keep their spirits up. They have always given so much of their time to us. I feel that we need to give back to them by keeping them active, connected, mentally stimulated, entertained and feeling relevant. The seniors in town are not only members of our community, but also friends.”
