On Sunday, Oct. 20, from 3 to 5 p.m., Saint Ann’s Church will offer a workshop for parents on talking with children about sexuality in the Griswold Room at 82 Shore Road, Old Lyme. The workshop stems from a belief that the church community is an excellent place for prayerful thought and open conversation on this complex topic.
What do Christians, as Episcopalians, as individuals, believe about sexuality? What do adults want to communicate to their children? The workshop is timed for those who are bringing children to the Confirmation Class, but the workshop is open to all parents in our community, not only the parents of confirmands. Parents of those who are very young are also encouraged to attend (child care will be provided for those who pre-register).
Obviously talking to young children is different from talking to teens. But the earlier one starts in these conversations, the easier it becomes. The workshop will be valuable to parents with children of all ages.
The workshop will be facilitated by Marriage and Family Therapist Jill Whitney, LMFT (and parish member of Saint Ann’s). A $15 donation is requested for the event. Registration is required. Sign up by contacting the parish office: (860) 434-1621.
If you have any questions about whether this program is suitable for you, feel free to contact Jill Whitney at (860) 399-2498 or at jwhitneylmft@gmail.com.
