The historic Lyme Art Association stands on Lyme Street.
An opening reception for the New England Landscape Invitational Exhibition will be held this evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lyme Art Association (LAA) at 90 Lyme Street, Old Lyme. The exhibition will be on view through Nov. 9.
Lyme Art Association member artists along with select invited artists will be exhibited throughout the Association’s historic galleries. All work will be for sale with a portion of proceeds benefiting the LAA.
Essex Savings Bank and Essex Financial Services are the Presenting Sponsors.
The exhibition will be juried by Harley Bartlett, a master landscape artist based in Rhode Island. Stapleton Kearns, Barbara Applegate, Christopher Magadini and Barbara Bemis Adams will be among the artists showing in the Invitational.
“This is our most popular annual exhibition, showcasing exceptional work from both invited and juried artists from all over the Northeast,” said the LAA’s current Executive Director Susan Ballek, who will be leaving soon to take up a new position at the Hill-Stead Museum in Farmington, Conn. The newly appointed Executive Director of the LAA, Joe Newman, will be on hand this evening to greet guests, as will Ballek.
“It is always a pleasure to display work by Christopher Magadini and Stapleton Kearns, who are both returning as an invited artists this year. Magadini is an accomplished painter and illustrator, and Kearns is a popular plein air painting workshop instructor at the Lyme Art Association,” noted Ballek. “The Association is also thrilled to showcase work by Barbara Bemis Adams for the first time. Adams’ pastel landscapes are quite captivating, and will appeal to visitors who appreciate contemporary artwork.”
The Lyme Art Association was founded in 1914 by the American Impressionists and continues the tradition of exhibiting and selling representational artwork by its members and invited artists, as well as offering art instruction and lectures to the community. The Lyme Art Association is located at 90 Lyme Street, Old Lyme, CT, in a building designed by Charles Adams Platt and located within an historic district.
