An exhibition of selected figure watercolor drawings titled, “David Dewey: Painting the Figure with my Students” is currently on display at Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts in the College’s Chauncey Stillman Gallery.
For over 30 years, David Dewey has regularly exhibited his watercolor paintings throughout the United States. His work is included in many major museums, as well as public and private collections. Dewey has had a long successful teaching career at Parson’s School of Design, the National Academy of Design School and Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts. In 2008, Dewey was named Professor Emeritus at Lyme Academy College.
He continues to conduct popular workshops in New York, Maine and New England and will resume his European workshop tours in the near future. His comprehensive book on the watercolor medium, The Watercolor Book, has been a must-have book for serious watercolor painters and educators since its publication in 1995.
Randy Melick, Associate Professor and theDeane G. Keller Chair of Classical Drawing atLyme Academy College, describesDewey’s work as having, “a beauty that is both fine-spun and venturous,” adding that Dewey’s works, “… are visually sparing – daringly so. They present strikingly streamlined, highly amended figures on paper that Dewey leaves, mostly, mark-free and pristine.”
The David Dewey Exhibition runs from Friday, Nov. 30, through Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013 in the Chauncey Stillman Gallery. Admission is free and the gallery is open to the public Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Also on display in the Sill House gallery at the College is theStudent Holiday Show and Art Sale. This show comprises a selection of original works in a variety of media by emerging artists. The exceptional quality of the artwork reflects the extraordinary caliber of teaching at the College by faculty who, in addition to their roles in the studio or classroom, are all working artists. Both students and faculty have been widely recognized for their accomplishments.
Always a popular exhibition, this show provides a perfect opportunity to find those one-of-a-kind gifts. All the artwork is attractively priced and sold on a cash and carry basis. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the show benefits the students directly.
The show runs through Saturday, Dec. 15, and is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
